Buurt Canvas
Buurt Canvas is an art and culture foundation that has been active in the Netherlands since 1999. We strive to build local art communities and use art as a tool to stimulate social and cultural policies on a local level. We create a safe space for people to come together and express their creativity through art classes held in community houses, theatres and museums. Our mission is to bring people together and promote arts and culture, and our passion is making art accessible for everyone.

Master Hasan
Master Hasan, that is how artist Hasan Sahin, the founder and chairman of Buurt Canvas, is known among those who know him. With his highly positive, cheerful, and attentive energy, he manages to inspire everyone to participate in his classes. Caring for and about people is inherent in his nature. However, he remains a master, a outspoken person who always teaches something to everyone with the best intentions, namely: all cultures are related, and everyone deserves to be appreciated. Art and culture are the only ways to achieve and fulfill this. Buurt Canvas embraces the worldview of Master Hasan and strives to bring art to every neighborhood because every neighborhood is enriched with art.
Our story
Buurt Canvas has emerged from the Turkish Culture and Art Foundation (STKK), which has been organizing socio-cultural and artistic activities since 1984. Buurt Canvas focuses on building responsive communities in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Currently, Buurt Canvas is active in Den Haag, Gouda, Haarlem, Leidschendam-Voorburg, Rotterdam, and Zoetermeer.

Our mission is to build responsive communities that support integration, emancipation, and participation through the use of socio-cultural and artistic activities. With the motto "Every Neighborhood is Rich with Art," we ensure that every child, woman, and parent can enjoy life and make clear progress in their lives.

Buurt Canvas aims to ensure that every disadvantaged neighborhood in the Netherlands develops its own identity by making artistic and cultural activities accessible to everyone. A neighborhood identity signifies a community and an organization that strives for the well-being of everyone in the neighborhood. It represents an opportunity to participate in society. Buurt Canvas wants to provide this opportunity to everyone.
